NEW SITE/NEW NAME

After taking a good long look at what has been going on ' or not' as it happens, at Nicals. DHP is having a change of name. In the new year we will be making a new website plus new myspace..We are taking a break from promoting gigs..(putting any on). But we are still going to be promoting bands for FREE, on our site(s).
We may well be doing the odd gig here and there but not using bands from outside cornwall @ Nicals, due to crap crowds and shite payment terms.
This will still be our blogs site, as i will be keep the name of Deadhead, the new name is going to that of the record label...'Deadtown Music'. there is s site under construction @ Present which can be found at http://www.freewebs.com/deadtown also we have a new myspace which you can find by going to http://www.myspace.com/deadtownmusic

Our main plan for the future of gigs is to hold them at bigger venues in Cornwall where the band will at least get some people to come and see them, we are looking into finding a better venue in Bodmin, but that is a task that has many downsides...maybe i should move..now there's an idea, but where to...well if the government have their way i'll be sent back Germany, as that is where i was born.....

BRAND NEW JOB

Well there you go people, that's how quickly someone's life can change. When i was doing the gigs @ Nicals, people always came forward with offers of help. Now i need that help no-one is coming forward. But after getting a few comments about said venue/pub i'm now know why. The PA system is bust and crowds are not showing up anymore. even bands are starting to stay away.

I was asking for help as i have gigs booked up until the end of the year, but only half of them are fully booked (support bands included), which takes me up to Sept 1st. after that it all goes tits up. The reason why i needed the help is due to the fact that i have a new job which starts on my first gig night...and i will be working nighjts from now on, so i can no longer do the gigs..(work the door..look after the bands etc). And seeing as no-one has offered any help the only thing i can do is to cancel the rest of the gigs. A sad state of affairs i know, but that's life and life's a bitch.

Is It Really Worth It?

Today i have been sat around thinking to myself, is it really worth going through all the shit that i take when i put gigs on. Bands letting me down, other bands demanding more & more money (which i don't blame them for). But when it all comes down to it, it's the place where the bands are playing. it's far too small to host big bands...yes i could book bigger bands to play @ Nicals, i have done in the past, but no-one wants to come in and pay anymore than £3.00, which again i don't blame them for, because the place is too small. You can charge what you like on the door, but if the people don't wanna show up and support the bands, then the bands ain't gonna get payed. Nicals really need to think things through, if they want the pub to be a good place for bands to come and play then maybe they should take a leaf from other pubs/venues and pay the bands that come in and play..i mean proper money...some bands are asking for £300 for the night, others will play for less than a hundred, but if you don't get the crowds in anymore what's the use in carrying on. I will carry on with this promotion lark for a short while, but if as i fear the crowds and bands are staying away then i'm going to call it day @ Nicals, it's just NOT worth the stress and hassle anymore.

I mean you charge £3.00 on the door and say you manage to 80 people in that's just £240, of course if you get the max in 100 people = £300..but that is never going to happen now.

SADDLE SORE

Today i went on a bike ride along the camel trail, which is a trail for walkers/bikes/horses (in Cornwall/UK) so they don't have to deal with so much traffic, like going on the main roads. Anyway the trek i went on today was 12 miles long, it was a bloody hot day today and on the way back home my knee (which i have been having trouble with) gave out, so i had to push the bike for the last mile or so. But the reason why i have a sore bum, is due to the fact that this is the first time that i have been on a bike for over 15 years. I feel ok at present apart from the sore arse, but i reckon in the morning my legs will feel the pain.
Still, i am going to keep up with the riding as i like to travel and i need to get fit.

BANDS = NO SHOW

Bands that don't show up for gigs are the worst type of bands that ever struck a chord! Why bother wasting everyones times saying you are going to play a gig, only not to show up. Even worse, why bother sending posters for the venue to advertise the fact, and still not show up.
It's bands like that that make me wanna find them and disband them for good. There is going to be some changes around her in DHP camp about bands gigging and not showing up...I mean you spend your time making up posters/flyers to advertise, or post off to mags to advertise, [which has got to be done early to catch the print deadline]...Then the band don't show. Even if the posters/flyers are cheap black & white ones, they still cost money, they still use ink from the printer in the first place. Looks like we may have to start putting out 'no-show' fees. To cover the costs for those bands that don't show without good reason. (like death, or dying through real illness). So let this be a warning to all you bands out there, that make a habit of this, because DHP will not stand for any 'tardyness'. If you let us down just once with good reason, we will not book you ever again. Why should if you can't be trusted to let people know what's going on...i mean there is a thing called the 'telephone' and most venues that i know of, have one. Just recently a couple of bands that were booked to play at Nicals in Bodmin didn't up... i know one of them and they booked the whole show for themself...so there was no back up band to fill the void...It's just not good enough boys. Lesson over...learn from it.

BACK TO WORK...'incap-benefit' people

The government are now trying to send more unfit people back to work, by changing the way it hands out 'incapacity benefit' and the new back to work tests...which failed with me. They stopped my money a day beofre i was to get payed, which i only found out the day before i was to get payed, so no money went into the bank, which meant i had no food, electric and could not pay any bills that needed paying off. infact i was left just over a month without any money what so ever, i couldn't even get a crisis loan. "great system at work again", With no money going into the bank, i had to use what was lft of my £100 overdraft..which of course soon went, and then i was in debt with the bank.."i still am", due to the charges and other debts, from bills i could not pay for over a month. But this never seemed to worry anyone, the fact that i was starving with no electric...'you could always ask your parents'...yes i could, but they are retired and are pensioners. So good luck to anyone who gets booted off of benefits the way i did, i'm still fighting to survive even now...when i got back pay that didn't even cover the bank debts let alone all the other debts i had incurred. This country doesn't give a shit about it's own citizens.

MISTAKES ARE MADE!!

Mistakes are made by us all, but i thought we were supose to learn from our mistakes? But it seems that some people just keep on making them. Take Nicals, now i'm not having a go at the venue/pub, this is just the facts. I used to do gigs there on Saturday nights...but then came along CSW [Concerts Southwest], with all their big ideas and Nicals were blinded by the pound signs flashing before their eyes...I was then unceremoniously shifted to a friday night. To which i made a stand by vowing to only put on gigs twice a month. Knowing that people don't have money to throw away these days...door price is cheap, but then there is drink...[sky high theses days, everywhere]. Anyway after a few months of CSW gigs, CSW have pulled out from doing any gigs @ Nicals anymore. So Saturday nights are now gig free. I tried to warn Nicals about the things i had heard about CSW, but it fell on deaf ears. So now what is going to happen...i don't know if Nicals know that CSW have pulled out as i have not been to the venue for sometime...reasons why i have not been there...#1 on a break from doing gigs...#2 taking a step away from drinking. Who knows what the future holds for them and gigs at the venue/pub.
Maybe a lesson has been learnt here, but i doubt it.

PROMOTE YOURSELF..

Hey you out there, yeh you in a band. Don't just sit there on your arse and expect everything to come to you...because you'll be sat there a very long time. Don't sit back and expect the local promoters to get you every single gig. get out and do it yourself.
Yes promoters can help you get the gigs, but you need to have a cd/demo handy to send them so they can forward it to the venues, in certain cases.

Promote your band on as many websites as possible...use as many sites as you can tha allow you to upload your music, such as: Soundclick / Purevolume / Amplifeye and many others. Try sending your cd's (of good quality) to local djs/radio stations...try for as many support slots as you can get..don't worry about getting payed...far too many bands moan about being payed these days...well if you think you're that good then why aren't you signed?
Exposure is the key word here... and here is one great site i have stumbled across on the net, it lets you upload songs and chat with other bands from across the pond as well. You can also use the flamplayer code to put on to your own website...by using 'copy & paste'... so here is the only link i will give you.. Unsigned music forum

Not only is this the title of one of my own written songs, but a subject i feel needs to be tackled.
before i start, i'd like to point out that in no way what so ever is this meant to be 'racist', it is a general view of the uk today.

Great britain, there is naff all great about britain anymore. once we had an empire and now we have a laughing stock of a country. The justice system may as well be done away with, because it's a bloody joke, human rights have gone too far...

The justice system...justice my arse.
In this day and age, if someone does something wrong, i.e. robbery, kill someone, or just breaks the law in one way or another, they get what is known as a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again...like that's going to work. Why bother putting criminals into prison, and giving them a sentence if you ain't going to be giving them the real term inside. Also when they are inside how the hell do they have any rights to anything. They have broken the law, the law of this country. but yet criminals & prisoners seem to get more help than the normal joe public on the street does, who might be finding it hard to make ends meet. They may as well break the law so they can live a better life-style in prison. In my opinion, if you break the law for what ever reason...you no longer have any rights...the only right is that you go to jail for the term that is dished out, no early release dates, no privilleges...tv,radio,papers...you should be made to work hard and long. Then maybe you'll think twice about doing anymore crime, if and when you come out. And for those that are not supposed to be in this country and get caught doing wrong or just get caught, they should be sent home, not given a house, money and or jobs.
This country has got to get tough, because if we don't pull our socks up we may as well just forget the idea of called this a united kingdom, and forget the great...it's nothing but shameful the way criminals get treated..they are animals and should be treat as a threat to society.

Human rights;
These do gooders really do make me laugh..'oh no you can't treat them like that'...excuse me! they have just run-down your child and killed them, and they don't even have a licence to drive, or they have just robbed your house..anything, and you say they have rights. Let's see of you would still feel the same if you were on the receiving end of it.Bet you would be whistling a different tune then.

TRUTH BE TOLD

What is it about people and the truth. Not so long a friend or should that now be ex-friend of mine (no names), got a little bit upset by what i had put on a website of mine about him, which by the way was true. I think maybe his girlfriend had seen it or maybe he was scared that someone from his work place would see it and he'd end up losing his job. Well all i can really say about that is maybe you should have acted with a bit of respect towards your friends and been true to yourself from the start, instead of trying to live a double or triple life. who do you think you are james bond, or some other under-cover agent...well just in case you do, i have news for you...you ain't nothing but a liar, and best of all you are lying to yourself. Things were done to me in the past by this ex-friend, which he may have thought to be funny..but when it interferes with your personal life, things become different. Twice this guy told lies to passed girlfriends of mine. One of which was far too smart for him and phoned me about what he had just said...lucky for him he had left the pub by the time i got down there. The guy was well know in the town and well known for being a creep. Oh he thought everyone was thick towards the way he was...well sorry to say we knew what you were about and had great pleasure in watching you make a complete and utter dick of yourself everytime. I would like to think that maybe he had grown up by now, but no, after he read what was on the website, which by the way has now been taken off, he spat the dummy and hasn't spoken or sent text since...or a post card. Still life seems so much better with the creep these days.

BAD LUCK !!

If it wasn't for bad luck then i would have no luck at all...to quote someone...
ever since 1989 i have been having bad luck, first i get an illness that puts me out of work for over 8years, then my sister dies from cancer (non-smoker). then i end up being kicked out of a band, just because i was being honest, became homeless for 6 months, had illness money stopped with out warning, leaving me without any money for over a month, putting me into debt with the bank and countless other things...promotions venture got raped by greed & stupidity.
And it seems as though i can't get a job, because i have been out of work so long, people don't wanna know...if that carries on much longer i will contact those big wigs and vent my splean. Telling them that this so called helping peolpe back to work is not working down here in Cornwall, or is it just me..maybe i'd be better off dead?
I know people say life is what you make it, but sometimes when life deals you a shite hand, after hand, you just can't see the wood for the trees...

Rant over now...

MAY 26th Last gig (eyedealsounds)

This was the last ever gig of Eyedealsounds. And it was attened by a small crowd and just one band. Andy (me) even took to the stage/floor to help with a cover of a beatles number 'Help' on vocals...boy i have never felt so nervous for such a long time...i was shaking so bad i could hardly hold my drink and take a swig...nothing to do with the fact i drunk myself sober earlier in the day... I would like to thank all those that showed up to wave goodbye to 'eyedealsounds'...even though it clashed with run to the sun and the weather was pretty crap!..I was home by 11pm and tucked up inbed by 11.45pm..that's punk rock for you.. Thank you T-S-O.

Deadhead Promotions

Hello there people, hope this blog finds you well..We are D-H-P, (ex-eyedealsounds).We are coming back to start a fresh new promotion wagon in August 2006.We will be doing the usual twice a month gigs @ Nicals, Bodmin, as well as doing gigs in othervenues around cornwall/southwest.Charity gigs will also be a big part of our outlook..(local southwest charities) as charity begins at home.We will be working close with studios and other promoters in & around the region.So we will see you all in August.
We (me) are looking for people to help us out at the gigs...i need some one to work the door..taking money..stamping hands... may also need someone to do the sounds..Sorry there is no payment involved (unless we have a bloody goodnight)...I also need help with the promotion of gigs..a street team would be great...people to print off flyers and post them up around their area advertising the gigs...don't go fly posting...put them up in shop windows etc...
